PEACE campaigners were in court today resisting a ban on protests against a controversial arms fair.
The Defence and Security Expo (DSE) arms industry promoter is planning the 3CDSE fair at the Three Counties Showground at Malvern in Worcestershire from October 31 to November 2, where the Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT) is planning protests.
The showground’s owners, Three Counties Agricultural Society, is seeking an injunction to ban or limit protests at the event.
A hearing began in the High Court in Birmingham today.
CAAT has organised a “Blooms Not Bombs!” and “Farms, Not Arms!” protest at Barnard’s Green in Malvern on Sunday October 30 at 2pm.
Kirsten Bayes of CAAT said: “We are challenging this injunction in court. Protest remains an important democratic right.
“Protesters are ordinary members of the public, saying no to violence and repression, and seeking to make their voice heard.”
DSE arms fairs at Canary Wharf in London have repeatedly faced disruption from protesters.
