Rail strikes to go ahead after last ditch talks fail to resolve dispute

GOODWILL “from all parties” is needed during the latest talks to end national rail strikes, RMT said today.

General secretary Mick Lynch’s call coincided with thousands of the transport union’s members across Network Rail and 14 train-operating companies beginning another 48-hour walkout in the six-month dispute over jobs, working conditions and pay.

Mr Lynch noted an “exchange of views” between the union, employers and Tory ministers in fresh negotiations, opened on Thursday, but he warned that bosses’ failure to table an improved offer would see strikes continue over Christmas.
