ANAS SARWAR wrote to First Minister Nicola Sturgeon today calling for the senior management team at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) to be sacked over the ongoing scandal at a flagship hospital.
During First Minister’s Questions the day before, the Scottish Labour leader revealed that a further two deaths at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow may have been linked to infections.
Ms Sturgeon claimed that the board was at its highest level of escalation, but Mr Sarwar disputed this today, calling for Scottish ministers to exercise their powers over the health board and for senior management to be replaced.
In a letter to the SNP leader today, he wrote: “The leadership at the health board and the oversight board put in place by your government have failed.
“So, I repeat my demands from yesterday: you must sack the chairman and chief executive at NHSGGC, sack the oversight board and put the hospital under direct ministerial control.
“More families should not have to pay the price for your government failing to do the right thing.”
NHSGGC and the government were approached for comment.
