Scaremongering over Chinese tech imports puts action on climate at risk, communists warn

SCAREMONGERING over Chinese technology imports risks scuppering Britain’s chances of tackling climate change, communists warned today.

Communist Party leader Robert Griffiths said reports that MPs wanted to scrap electric vehicle targets because of China’s domination of green tech supply chains showed the “absurd depths” to which anti-China hysteria had now sunk in British politics.

The Sunday Telegraph reported at the weekend that cross-party MPs were warning against rules that would instruct car dealers to sell a quota of electric vehicles from next year, building towards a ban on new petrol and diesel cars from 2030.

Following the Uxbridge by-election, some Tory MPs have suggested the latter target should be scrapped entirely — and now the supposed risk of Chinese technology, with MPs claiming Chinese cars could spy on their drivers, is being raised to attack any shift to electric vehicles.

Mr Griffiths told the Morning Star he had to “check the date to make sure it wasn’t April Fool’s.

“The sooner Britain reverts to mutually beneficial economic relations with China the better — not least in the interests of our planet.”
