AN MP has suggested that gun controls should be tightened following a spate of gun and knife attacks in the Isle of Skye and Lochalsh that left one man dead and three injured.
John MacKinnon, 47, was pronounced dead at a house in the Teangue area of Skye on Wednesday morning.
Three people were also taken to hospital following further incidents in the Tarskavaig area of the island and in Dornie on the mainland.
A 39-year-old man has been arrested in connection with all of the incidents, which police said they believe are linked.
Scotland’s Finance Secretary Kate Forbes said that the attacks will “shatter” the Highland community to its “core” as she described the news as “one of the worst days I can recall in the history of Skye and Lochalsh.”
On gun regulations, MP for Ross, Skye and Lochaber Ian Blackford said: “Given what we have seen over the course of the last 24 hours, it is right and proper that we continue to look at the regulations that we have in place for the very simple reason that all of us have got a responsibility to keep people safe.”
