Striking post office workers demand bosses ‘sit up and get real’ on pay

BRITAIN’S post offices endured another day of national strike action today as workers demanded bosses “sit up and get real” on pay negotiations.

Walkouts by clerical and administrative staff across the country’s 11,500 subpost offices, or smaller stores, followed Monday’s action, which saw staff down tools at the nationalised company’s 114 larger branches, known as crown post offices.

The dispute follows management’s significantly below-inflation pay offer of just 3 per cent for 2022-23 and a pay freeze for last year.

The Communication Workers Union, which represents the workers, said the “blame for this disruption lies entirely with the senior leadership, who have repeatedly failed and refused to set out a sensible agreement or engage in meaningful negotiations.”

Assistant secretary Andy Furey said: “Post Office workers are telling bosses loud and clear: don’t waste our time, sit up and get real on pay.”

The profitable firm apologised in advance for any inconvenience caused to customers, but said the walkouts will not affect the “vast majority” of its branches.
