NHS Trust first to sign diversity charter

A MIDLANDS NHS trust has become the first to sign a trade union charter committing itself to promoting tolerance, equality and diversity in the workplace.

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, which employs 16,500 workers, has signed up to Unite’s charter.

The landmark signing is another step forward in Unite’s fight to stamp out racism and far right activities, the union said.

Unite regional officer Mark Pettifer said: “This will be the first NHS trust to have signed up to the charter in the UK and is a significant move which, hopefully, will lead other public-sector employers to follow suit.

“It is a template for tolerance and equality in the workplace.”
