Unions call for increased pay offer for council workers

UNIONS representing council and school support staff have urged employers to improve their pay offer in a bid to avert industrial action.

Officials warned of months of disruption to local government services if a 1.75 per cent offer is not increased.

Unison, Unite and the GMB, which represent 1.4 million council and school staff in England, Wales and the North of Ireland, have written to local government employers asking them to return to the negotiating table.
