Unite backs sanctions on Russia but opposes escalation of Ukraine war

UNITE backed the imposition of further sanctions on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine at the union’s policy conference today.

Delegates endorsed an executive council statement calling on the British government to seek a “cessation of hostilities and find a negotiated solution” to the war, “rejecting military escalation and intervention.”

It also expressed concern over allegations that Russian forces have used cluster bombs in Ukraine and news that the United States is now supplying these weapons to the Ukrainian military.
