‘We must not accept homophobic and misogynist violence in our society,’ Corbyn says

Melania Geymonat and her partner Chris were attacked in the early hours last week by four young men

FOUR teenage males, aged between 15 and 18, have been arrested on suspicion of robbery and aggravated GBH after two women were subject to a homophobic attack on a London night bus, Scotland Yard said yesterday.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn condemned the attack, calling it “absolutely shocking.”

Melania Geymonat, 28, and her partner Chris, were viciously attacked in the early hours last Thursday by a group of young men who demanded they kiss before mugging them.

Police made arrests yesterday after shocking pictures of the attack went viral, showing both women with blood streaming from their faces.

Mr Corbyn said on social media: “We must not, and will not, accept this homophobic and misogynist violence in our society.

“Solidarity to Melania and Chris, and to all in the LGBT+ community for everything they endure for simply being who they are.”

Ms Geymonat told the BBC: “They surrounded us and started saying really aggressive stuff, things about sexual positions, lesbians and claiming we could kiss so they could watch us.”

Ruth Serwotka from Women’s Place UK (WPUK) told the Morning Star she was “appalled” by the attack.

“This shows that homophobic and misogynist violence is still a part of life for too many women,” she said.
