Welsh government's partnership legislation a blueprint for rest of UK, TUC says

THE co-operative partnership of trade unions and government working together in Wales stands in contrast to the Tories’ divisive attacks on unions, workers and the right to strike, TUC general secretary Paul Nowak will say when he visits Wales today.

The Welsh government’s Social Partnership and Public Procurement Act could be a blueprint for the rest of the UK, Mr Nowak is set to say on a visit to the Airbus factory in Broughton with shadow employment rights minister Justin Madders.

And he will praise Wales for “leading the way” with its pro-worker agenda.

The Social Partnership Act is supported by Welsh workers by a factor of five to one.

While Westminster’s Conservatives are driving through Parliament new legislation that will restrict the right to strike, the Welsh government is to ban employers’ threats to the jobs of workers who refuse to cross picket lines.

“The Welsh government has shown how to bring employers and unions together to promote fair work, improve skills and tackle inequality,” the TUC leader plans to say.

“It is a stark contrast to the divisive approach being taken by the Conservative government.”
