West Yorkshire police investigate seven alleged breaches of Covid restrictions by its own staff

WEST Yorkshire Police is investigating seven alleged breaches of Covid-19 restrictions by its own staff.

It is not known how many of the staff are police officers, but a complaint has been lodged against one officer who failed to wear a mask or to socially distance when making a “welfare” visit to a vulnerable 92-year-old woman.

The individual complaint was lodged by Richard Eaton of Huddersfield, who said two officers visited his grandmother to check on her welfare.

He said one officer wasn't wearing a mask and didn’t maintain social distancing when inside the flat.

Huddersfield Labour MP Barry Sheerman called for any police officers found to have breached the regulations to be given a “good dressing down.”

West Yorkshire Police confirmed that it was investigating seven breaches of the regulations by its own employees, but has not revealed in what capacity they work for the service.

By December 21 last year more than 32,000 people had been fined for breaking the regulations in England and Wales, according to the National Police Chiefs’ Council.
