Yanis Varoufakis to address European rally against the cold war on China

FORMER Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis will address the international Europe Against the Cold War — China is Not Our Enemy rally on Saturday.

Mr Varoufakis will be joined by guests including European Left Party vice-president Maite Mola, Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament general secretary Kate Hudson, Madison Tang of the US Code Pink campaign and Soochow University’s Victor Gao — a former interpreter for Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping.

Nora Garcia of the No Cold War international organising committee said the event “aims to open the debate on what Europe’s role should be ... US hegemony is in dispute and the US prefers to move towards confrontation rather than a multipolar world of co-operation. [US President Joe] Biden is seeking allies to broaden the front against China, and Europe is in the middle.”

No Cold War’s Fiona Edwards told the Morning Star it was “vital that European countries co-operate with China to tackle existential shared threats, most crucially the struggle to stop climate breakdown.”

The event will be live from 11am British time and have simultaneous translation into English, Spanish and French. Register at mstar.link/3ptcmEm or watch on No Cold War’s Youtube channel.
