Black women five times more likely to die in childbirth

THE fact that black women are five times more likely to die in pregnancy and childbirth than their white peers is a “national scandal,” delegates at the GMB’s annual congress have heard.

Members in Harrogate overwhelmingly passed a motion on Monday that highlighted the gross disparity in maternity care received by people of colour.

It challenged Tory ministers to commit to funding the changes needed to improve services for black and ethnic minority people.
