STAFF at the University of Bradford will down tools for 10 days from Monday in a fight to save jobs.
University and College Union (UCU) said that workers will strike every weekday until Friday, October 3, in their dispute, disrupting the first two weeks of the new academic year.
Pickets will take place every day from 8am to 12pm at four separate entrances.
It comes after 82 per cent of staff backed strike action in a ballot with a turnout of 57 per cent and follows previous strike actions in June, July and August.
The planned cuts will see chemistry courses and film and television courses shut down, the union says, and nine professors and 47 full-time equivalent lecturers face the risk of redundancy.
UCU general secretary Jo Grady said: “Management needs to listen to the voices of its staff, rethink the cuts and rule out compulsory redundancies.
“It is now for the employer to decide if the university wants to avoid disruption to students at the beginning of the new academic year.”
A university spokesperson said it is reviewing all operations to “make savings in response to sector-wide financial challenges.”
They said: “We remain committed to working with unions and where possible will seek to avoid or minimise compulsory redundancies.
“We appreciate this is a difficult time for many at the university and we will continue to offer support to our staff.
“We will also endeavour to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum and protect the student experience.”
