A 93-YEAR-OLD woman is the fourth Brit to die in the devastating wildfires that swept through southern Spain, authorities said day.

The Andalusian government said the woman was taken to hospital on Friday with burns to about 20 per cent of her body.

Her death was confirmed on Sunday, bringing the total number of fatalities to 13.

Two British hikers were separately found alive but badly burned, thought to have suffered 40 per cent burns.

They were rescued by Civil Guards after more than two hours, having initially been missed during an earlier search of the area.

Sergeant Pedro Barre said the Civil Guard called out and used whistles, before eventually hearing a sound.

Another of the rescuers, Rafael Zea, said that given the couple’s injuries, it must have taken a “Titanic effort” for them to raise their voices to be heard.

The pair are said to be in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

Spanish authorities believe all the victims were foreign tourists who attempted to flee on foot through rugged terrain after abandoning their vehicles.
