MONOCHROME is a selection from the MOMA Tabernacle permanent collection at the Tannery Gallery in Machynlleth, comprising over 360 paintings which are shown in continuous rotation.
It features work by well-known artists such as Augustus John, Stanley Spencer and Percy Wyndham Lewis, as well as works by artists who exhibit at MOMA Wales.
This is the first time its rich and varied collection of drawings, etchings, lithographs, mono prints and wood engravings are being displayed together.
They range from Marc Boxer’s caricature of Roy Jenkins, an infamous member of the 1982 “Gang of Four” Labour Party renegades, to the unsettlingly expressionistic Cradle by Christine Mills, the romantic sketch of young Dylan Thomas by Mervyn Levy and the delightful street scene of Back-to-Back by Sarah Snazell.
The variety of techniques, styles and thematic interests on display make this something of a must-see.
Runs until February 29, opening times: moma.machynlleth.org.uk.
