IT WILL be tough to follow our winning 50/1 nap in the Cambridgeshire last week, but there could be some big price mileage in Clear Water (nap) in the big-six furlong handicap at Newmarket due off at 2.05.

Michael Wigham’s charge has a good record on the Rowley Mile course and this filly showed that her turn was just around the corner last time out, when a very solid fourth of 10 at Salisbury in a similar class event.

If we can get anything like the 16/1 forecast then I think she rates a very solid each-way call and gets the vote from a value perspective over the likely favourite Marie of Lyon and Kassia.

Further down the card, I have a fancy that Siyoushake could upset the better-fancied other French raiders in the feature Sun Chariot Stakes due off at 2.40.

Her two placed efforts in the Prix Rothschild and Prix Romanet entitle her to significant respect even in this Group One mile event with Persuasive and Usherette considered her biggest dangers.

At Ascot, the big handicap of the day is the 7f heritage event due off at 3.35 and, while top-weight Firmament is respected and the progressive three-year-old Mojito, chasing a four-timer, should also go well, the each-way call is Birchwood.

It is fair to say that Richard Fahey’s charge has been a bitter disappointment this season, but as a consequence his handicap mark has slipped to a very manageable level and he wasn’t far off Remarkable and company in a similar valuable event over course and distance last time out.

The key to his chance is producing him as late as possible as he has just one sharp turn of foot. The relatively slow pace last time out also didn’t suit his cause.

There is plenty of group action on the card as well and Waldgeist should prove a class above his rivals in the 12f Cumberland Lodge Stakes at 2.25, even though the bang-in-form classy handicapper Great Hall is respected.

Later on, the Bengough Stakes at 3.00 looks wide open, but Blue Point should take a deal of beating as long as the ground doesn’t ease too much.

Sir Robert Cheval looks better value than Waady in the opening Rous Stakes at 1.50, while at the back end of the card have a second glance at the fresh Lincoln in the sprint handicap at 4.45.

Redcar’s big race of the year is the Two-Year-Old Trophy at 3.20 and Crownthorpe (nb) could be the each-way pick if we can get 10/1 about him.

One of a battalion of Richard Fahey-trained runners, he would ideally be suited to an extra furlong, but they normally go hell for leather in this contest and his strength in the closing stages may swing things his way.

Finally, on the evening card at Wolverhampton, King Robert can swoop late to land the big sprint at 6.45, while I shall also be supporting Norab in the mile-and-a-half handicap at 8.45.
