Climate protesters target Drax power plant over arrests of campaigners

CLIMATE campaigners targeted one of Europe’s biggest power stations today over this week’s arrest of 22 environmental campaigners there.

Taxpayer-subsidised Drax power station in Yorkshire burns wooden pellets made from trees felled in the United States and Canada and shipped across the Atlantic.

Axe Drax campaigners tried to establish a climate camp on Thursday and were arrested and their supporters mounted a demonstration in protest today.

Drax was Europe’s biggest coal-fired power station until it converted to biofuel.
