Courier firm Stuart Delivery told to negotiate with union rather than 'employer-dominated focus group'

BOSSES of a food delivery courier firm in South Yorkshire have agreed to talks with workers after being hit by a series of strikes.

But Sheffield Trade Union Council (TUC) has called on the company to officially recognise the workers’ union, the Industrial Workers of Great Britain (IWGB), rather than talk with workers invited by the firm.

IWGB members at delivery couriers Stuart — subcontracted by Just Eat to deliver takeaways — are striking over pay cuts, but the firm announced yesterday it had selected several couriers for a meeting.

Sheffield TUC secretary Martin Mayer said: “These are some of the most exploited workers in the city and they are angry at having had a pay cut from December 6 on top of all the other grievances they have.

“These issues will not be resolved by an employer-dominated ‘focus group’ meeting.

“This is a typical tactic of the worst anti-union employers who are desperate not to talk to let alone recognise a legitimate trade union. We don’t want anti-union employers in this city.”

Stuart Delivery has been invited to comment.
