Labour criticise PM’s ‘warped priorities’ over new £2.6 million tv studio at Downing Street

BORIS JOHNSON has been accused of having “warped priorities” over a new £2.6 million television studio at 10 Downing Street that will be used for the first time today.

The facility will host a Covid-19 press conference this afternoon.

Concerns have been raised about value for money after a photo of the studio emerged earlier this month, showing a plain blue backdrop against the wood-panelled wall, a lectern, one television screen, four Union Jack flags and rows of black chairs.

The picture was revealed in the same week that the Tory government refused to budge on a 1 per cent “pay rise” for NHS nurses, effectively a pay cut after inflation is taken into account.

Labour said yesterday that the money would have been better spent on providing free school meals for thousands of children during the school holidays or starting salaries for more than 100 police constables, army privates or nurses.

Deputy party leader Angela Rayner criticised Mr Johnson’s “warped priorities,” adding: “Instead of wasting taxpayers’ money on pointless vanity projects, the Prime Minister should give our NHS staff the pay rise that they deserve.”
