Marine Le Pen ordered to undergo psychiatric assessment for sharing horror images

FRENCH fascist leader Marine Le Pen complained after a judge ordered her to undergo a psychiatric assessment following her posting jihadist murders on social media.

Ms Le Pen is under investigation for sharing “violent messages that incite terrorism or pornography or seriously harm human dignity,” after circulating footage of Islamic State (Isis) atrocities, including the beheading of US journalist James Foley.

The leader of the National Rally party, formerly known as the National Front, was angered at the court decision, which was made to assess whether she suffered from any mental illness that affected her understanding.

She moaned on Twitter:  “I thought I had seen it all, but no! For having denounced the horrors of Daesh in tweets, the ‘justice’ department is submitting me to a psychiatric evaluation! How far will they go?!”

The former presidential candidiate indicated that she would refuse to take part in the psychiatric evaluation, telling reporters after the hearing she felt persecuted.

“I’d like to see how the judge would try and force me do it,” she said.

Ms Le Pen has been under investigation since March and prosecutors were able to bring charges against the far-right leader after she was stripped of parliamentary immunity last November.

She received support from fellow far-right politician Matteo Salvini, Italy's deputy prime minister and leader of the country's Northern League, who offered “solidarity” to Ms Le Pen and “the French who love freedom.”

However, French socialist Jean Luc-Melenchon explained that Ms Le Pen’s hatred was not due to mental illness, since she is “politically responsible for her political acts.

“This is not how we will weaken the far right.”

If convicted, Ms Le Pen could face up to three years in prison.
