LEFTWINGERS have condemned the coup against Peru’s democratically elected president, Pedro Castillo, by lawmakers of the country’s Congress on Wednesday.
Mr Castillo was stripped of his office by the right-wing lawmakers that dominate the legislative body, arrested and then charged with rebellion and allegedly violating constitutional order.
This came after a last-ditch attempt by Mr Castillo to stop the coup by dissolving Congress was blocked.
