Iran – give diplomacy a chance

SINCE coming to office Joe Biden has issued a flurry of executive orders aimed at freezing or reversing some of the worst excesses of the Trump administration.  

Newly appointed Secretary of State Antony Blinken has already commented on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the nuclear deal struck by Iran and six major powers in 2015, which committed Iran to restricting its nuclear programme in return for sanctions relief from the United States and others.

Donald Trump put the United States in violation of the deal by abandoning it in 2018, reimposing US sanctions and adopting a policy of “maximum pressure” upon the regime in Tehran.
