IT’S BEEN 13 years since I was appointed Scottish secretary of Unite. I am as honoured today, as I was then, to help lead Unite fighting for a fairer Scotland, whether that be in the workplace, communities or in the corridors of power.
Many things have changed over this period in employment relations, society and in the political landscape. We have come through an unprecedented global pandemic which took the lives of more than 220,000 people in the UK.
There were divisive Scottish independence and Brexit referendums. This overlapped with a historic changing of the political guard with the SNP now controlling Holyrood for over a decade.
