Reach for the Star The best way to stay informed about the class struggle

BERNADETTE KEAVENEY encourages readers to share articles with friends, relatives, fellow trade union members and even bosses

ANDREW MURRAY’s Eyes Left column on Wednesday reminded me of a message I was told many times over when I first joined the paper.

To be truly informed as a trade union leader there were two newspapers that were indispensable.

The Financial Times so that we know what the bosses are thinking and planning and the Morning Star to know what the workers and the movement were thinking.

We have over the years targeted the financial sectors predominantly in London, Birmingham and Manchester and we will do this again over the next few weeks.

We could do with more bosses reading our paper and understanding the reality of their workers — you never know it may encourage more of them to settle pay disputes.

Yesterday we had two excellent articles for Holocaust Memorial Day.

With the ease given by having them appear not only in the print and digital editions but on our website I was able to share both with friends for whom I knew they would be of particular interest.

This will be followed up with information on how to subscribe to the Morning Star.

I would ask that while you read the paper that you also consider friends, work colleagues, family who might be interested in a particular article.

It might be that our sports and arts coverage particularly appeals.

It’s easy to share articles from the website and when you do encourage a subscription to at least the basic website access which is an affordable £4.99 a month or send a link to the newsletters page.

The newsletters are completely free to receive. The daily alert highlights news that is in that days paper and the weekly newsletters for Scotland and Arts and Culture round up the week’s articles and encourage us to go back and read what we might have skimmed over.

It is another great free service to introduce new readers. To sign up for our newsletters follow the link on our website.

There is still time to order papers to take along to Right to Strike events which are taking place on Wednesday February 1.

Final orders must be received first thing Monday to [email protected]

Let’s not restrict the distribution of that edition’s paper which will be full of information as to why we are protesting but make sure you get it to a Financial Times reader.
