German police raid homes in ongoing investigation into Vienna terror attack

POLICE in Germany have raided the homes and businesses of four men linked to the Islamic State (Isis) sympathiser responsible for killing four people and wounding 23 in Vienna on Monday.

Officers searched premises in the central city of Kassel, Osnabrueck in the northwest and in Pinneberg county near Hamburg.

They said they do not currently suspect the men of involvement in Monday’s terror attack and were collecting evidence.

The attacker, who was shot dead by Austrian police, has been identified as 20-year-old Kujtim Fejzulai, who had a previous conviction for trying to join Isis but had been granted early release.

Austrian authorities are investigating why the assailant was not placed under observation after Slovakia passed on a warning that he had tried to buy assault-rifle ammunition in Bratislava.

Austria has also ordered the closure of several mosques it described as “radical.”

In France, where jihadists recently staged a deadly attack on a church in Nice, young Muslims have mounted watches outside Lodeve cathedral to show solidarity with churchgoers and promote unity against terrorism.
