GMB signs deal giving unions access to HS2's Birmingham Station

THE GMB union has signed a deal giving trade unions access to HS2’s Curzon Street station in Birmingham, the union announced today.

Unite union officials signed a similar deal with MaceDragados, the joint venture building the station.

GMB national officer Charlotte Brumpton-Childs said: “GMB is proud to have reached an agreement with MaceDragados.

“Workers win when unions are given access to the workplace. We look forward to meeting new members and recruiting reps to further strengthen GMB’s involvement in the HS2 construction.”

GMB said it will use the access to the workforce to recruit members and reps. The union will also be able to make sure standards in health, safety and wellbeing are maintained.

On Tuesday, Unite West Midlands said regional officer Stuart Baker, national officer Jerry Swain, reps from other unions and Mace’s CEO signed an agreement giving trade unions access to the workforce, ensuring that the workers’ voices are heard throughout the project.

Mace was contacted for comment.
