A YEAR of events marking a century since women won the right to vote was launched in Leeds today.
The opening of Centenary Cities: 100 Years of Votes for Women was led by Labour leader of Leeds City Council Judith Blake.
The council-organised events bring together women’s organisations in Leeds to discuss issues including safety, employment and welfare, violence against women, poverty and austerity.
The conclusions will help form the basis of a city-wide action plan for women which will complement work already underway.
Cllr Blake said: “Whilst recognising this hugely important event in our history we also must acknowledge that our society still has a long way to go before women are truly equal.
“Events like this are one way we can ensure that the voices of women and girls in our city are not only heard but priorities and their views acted upon.”
