Lebanon Hariri heads for talks after tearing up resignation

LEBANESE Prime Minister Saad Hariri will meet leaders of world powers in Paris tomorrow following Tuesday’s reversal of his November 4 resignation.

Turkish news agency Anadolu reported yesterday that Mr Hariri will attend a meeting of the International Lebanon Support Group hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron.

The group includes the five permanent members of the UN security council — Britain, China, France, Russia and the US.

Mr Macron’s office said the president welcomed Mr Hariri’s reversal of his resignation — made in a broadcast on Saudi TV on Tuesday.

In the statement, Mr Hariri said that the situation had been resolved after the Lebanese Parliament agreed to stay out of the business of other Arab states.

Meanwhile Mr Hariri met Palestinian Hamas party representatives Ali Baraka and Ziad Hassan yesterday, who also congratulated him on the move.

They delivered a message from Hamas president Ismail Haniyeh urging condemnation and action against the impending US recognition of Israel’s claim to Jerusalem as its capital.
