Home Office to begin 'detaining asylum-seekers in Rwanda operation'

THE Home Office will reportedly detain asylum-seekers tomorrow to prepare them for deportation to Rwanda.

Officials will begin the nationwide two-week operation weeks earlier than expected, according to the Guardian.

Refugees who turn up for routine meetings at immigration service offices are to be held and immediately transferred to detention centres.

Others identified for these flights are already being held, the report said.

It is thought the launch of the operation has been timed to coincide with Thursday’s local council elections in England, to boost Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s claim he is cracking down on illegal migration.

Police in Scotland have been put on alert because of the high risks of street protests and attempts by pro-refugee campaigners to stop detentions.

Last week, Mr Suank said the first flights to Rwanda would take off in “10 to 12 weeks” after the government forced its controversial Bill legalising the flights through Westminster.

The Home Office has been contacted for comment.
