HUNDREDS attended the Young Communist League (YCL’s) second annual Harry Pollitt School in Manchester at the weekend, engaging in discussions on trade union organising, countering anti-communist ideology, media strategy and more.
YCL general secretary Georgina Andrews said the school was a “resounding success, developing young communists’ theoretical knowledge and practical skills to strengthen our role in the class struggle.”
The two-day political school included talks on Marxist economics, whether socialism can be patriotic and the rise of the far right across Europe, as well as panel discussions on the communist approach to trade unions, the new cold war and the experiences of socialist states.
YCL members could also see an advance screening of the London Recruits film on the secret communist missions to undermine apartheid in South Africa, and take part in a socialist history walking tour of Manchester city centre.
