Include rail in free travel for young Scots, train union demands
THE train drivers’ union in Scotland have called for a scheme giving free bus travel to under-22s to be extended to the country’s publicly owned rail service.
The Scottish government introduced free bus travel for under-22s in January, effectively subsidising private bus operators’ profits.
Since then an estimated 21 million free journeys have been made by almost half a million young people, according to official figures yesterday.
