Iran hangs three men and a woman for crimes allegedly linked to Mossad operations

THREE men and a woman were executed in Iran today for crimes allegedly linked to Israel’s Mossad spy agency.

Vafa Hanareh, Aram Omari, Rahman Parhazo and Nasim Namazi were convicted of kidnapping Iranian security forces personnel to extract information and setting fire to cars and flats belonging to Iranian intelligence agents.

A report from the Mizan news website said several others working with them received 10-year prison sentences, but gave no further details.

Iran accuses Israel of extensive spying and sabotage operations on its territory. Scientists working on its nuclear programme have been murdered, most recently Mohsen Fakrizadeh in 2020, with Iran blaming Israel.

Israeli media have also quoted its intelligence agents admitting involvement in previous assassinations, such as those of Ahmadi Roshan and Darioush Rezaeinejad. This week, an Israeli air strike killed a senior Iranian general in Syria.

On Thursday France, Britain and Germany criticised Iran for accelerating its uranium enrichment process, saying it showed Tehran has no plans to return to the terms of the 2015 agreement limiting its nuclear ambitions, which was ripped up by then US president Donald Trump in 2018.
