Knighthood for 'incompetent' Gavin Williamson 'an insult,' say unions and MPs
Gavin Williamson as education secretary

SCHOOL leaders are “outraged” by the award of a knighthood to sacked former education secretary Gavin Williamson.

The Tory MP for South Staffordshire became education secretary in 2019 but was sacked by PM Boris Johnson during his September 2021 cabinet reshuffle over the exam and school closure fiasco during the Covid pandemic.

Mr Williamson had also previously been sacked from the cabinet by former PM Theresa May over a leak from the National Security Council.
