Llanidloes peace campaigners mourn murder of volunteer ambulance driver in West Bank by Israeli settlers

PEACE campaigners in Llanidloes mourned the murder of a volunteer ambulance driver in the Palestinian West Bank town of as-Sawiya a week ago at their weekly vigil at the weekend.

The Llanidloes vigils for Gaza are a weekly Saturday morning fixture in the mid-Wales town, where a friendship association with as-Sawiya has been formed.

Kate Hodgson from the group said they were shocked by the killing of a paramedic and ambulance driver when they attempted to help people injured in an attack by illegal Israeli settlers.

“The vigils are supported by the Llanidloes-as-Sawiya Friendship Association,” Ms Hodgson said. “We raise awareness through events like talks and films and a market stall selling Palestinian produce.

“With the money raised, we have supported schools in as-Sawiya, olive-tree planting, and we also donate to charities like Medical Aid for Palestine and the United Nations Relief & Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.”
