London Mayor clarifies comments to city's Kurds after Turkish newspaper misquote
SADIQ KHAN was today forced to clarify his comments to London’s Kurdish community after a pro-Turkish government newspaper misquoted him in an article that branded the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) “terrorists.”
In a letter headed by former Haringey mayor Ali Ozbek, Kurdish Labour councillors wrote to the Mayor of London accusing him of lending “support” to a “dirty campaign to criminalise the Kurds.”
They were writing as a result of fury in the Kurdish community in the capital caused by an article published by the Daily Sabah, a newspaper openly supportive of the Turkish government’s right-wing politics.
