ATTEMPTS to recover the body of a US missionary killed by a remote tribe in the Andaman and Nicobar islands have been put on hold due to the high risk, Indian officials confirmed today.

The decision followed a meeting called by government official Chetan Sanghi with senior police officials, tribal welfare, forest and anthropological departments who said the operation would be difficult and put the protected Sentinelese tribe at risk.

Officials approached the island “to check the situation” and observed a body being dragged away by the tribespeople.
