THE lives of prominent Scottish suffragettes and the state’s brutal suppression of their movement is the subject of a new exhibition in Edinburgh.
The display, at the National Records of Scotland (NRS), delves into historical records to uncover details of protests, arrests, hunger strikes and force-feeding. It marks the centenary of some women being given the vote.
Among the prominent Scottish suffragettes featured are Ethel Moorhead, Frances Gordon and Arabella Scott, who were all imprisoned for their campaigning activities and were force-fed while on hunger strike.
