A YOUNG communist is still awaiting a court hearing almost 18 months since his arrest at Cop26 after it was rescheduled for a second time today.
Nathan Hennebry of the Young Communist League (YCL) was the only person of the many arrested at a protest coinciding with Glasgow’s hosting of the climate summit in November 2021 to go on to be charged with an offence.
The arrest and subsequent charge of “reckless and culpable conduct” happened after police at the march had employed controversial “kettling” tactics on the YCL bloc from its beginnings in the city’s Kelvingrove Park, before diverting them from the march and taking a number of protesters into custody.
A hearing to consider the charges against Mr Hennebry was due to take place today, but was rescheduled by the sheriff for a second time to July 26 — the anniversary of the Cuban revolution.
It is unknown whether the sheriff was aware of the date’s significance in revolutionary struggle.
