Charity to give Covid jab to homeless in London

A HOMELESS charity is partnering with the NHS to give rough sleepers and undocumented migrants in London the Covid-19 vaccine.

Nishkam Swat, a volunteer-run organisation which provides hot meals for the homeless, said it will be administering the jab from its own ambulances.

The group has continued supporting rough sleepers throughout the pandemic. Nishkam Swat CEO Randeep Lall said during this time the homeless community has been “completely forgotten about, especially those who are undocumented.”

“Knowing the danger this poses for the wider community, we knew something had to be done as a matter of urgency,” he said.

Mr Lall noted that homeless people are more likely to have physical and mental conditions that put them at higher risk of harm from the virus.

THe government insists that everyone regardless of immigration status can get the jab. But campaigners have warned that fears over immigration enforcement could prevent people coming forward.

The first vaccine service will be at the Strand, London on Monday 19 from 6pm to 8pm outside Zimbabwe House.
