Men's Football Hammers see off FCSB comfortably

West Ham 3-1 FCSB
by Paul Donovan
at London Stadium

WEST HAM ran out comfortable winners of this Europa Conference group game against Romanian side FCSB at the London Stadium, after a very shaky start.

The writing was on the wall after half an hour, with Darius Olaru and Andrei Cordea combining, only for the latter to head the ball into the grateful arms of home keeper Alphonse Areola.

Five minutes later, though, a move started by Florinel Coman saw the same two combine — only this time Cordea swept the ball home at the back post.

West Ham manager David Moyes rang the changes at half time, bringing on Michail Antonio for the ineffectual Gianluca Scamacca plus Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen for Said Benrahma and Manuel Lanzini.

West Ham then took control of the game.

Maxwel Cornet was felled by FCSB keeper Stefan Tarnovanu. Bowen converted the resulting penalty.

The home side then took the lead, when Antonio got between keeper and defender, enabling Emerson to come round the back to poke home his first goal for the club.

On the stroke of full time, Pablo Formals flicked the ball on for Antonio who turned driving at the FCSB defence to fire home.

A very satisfying finish to a match that at times had seemed to be getting away from West Ham.
