Men's Baseball MLB looks right at home in the London Stadium

THE London Stadium was home to Major League Baseball over the weekend and did not look out of place, as fans of the sport were treated to large-scoring games.

The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox played a slug-fest on Saturday, with the Yankees coming out on top 17-13.

Built as an athletics stadium but now used as a football ground for Premier League outfit West Ham, the running track surrounds the pitch, the diamond field looked marvellous in the London sun and once again raised questions as to why the sport of football is played in a venue not fit for purpose.

A season-record 59,659 crowd watched Saturday’s game, which lasted over four-and-a-half hours, and Yankees manager Aaron Boone believes for British fans, the duration of the game is something they should be used to.

“I actually spent some time thinking about that during the game,” said Boone. “I was looking out to the crowd and wondering, they must be thinking: ‘This is pretty long.’

“But cricket takes all weekend to play, right? A lot of people are used to it. They saw a lot of great hitters do some great things and some really good defensive plays as well.

“But we should remind them there’s not 30 runs every game.”
