Women's Football Nikita Parris leaves Manchester City to join Champions League winners

CHAMPIONS League winners Lyon bolstered their attack yesterday with the signing of the FWA Women’s Footballer of the Year, Nikita Parris.

The ex-Manchester City attacker made clear earlier this month that she was leaving after four years at the club.

Helping the club to a domestic cup double this season, the 25-year-old felt it was time for her to “kick on” and test herself in a side that has won four Champions League trophies in a row.

“Ultimately, when Olympique Lyon come in for you, it’s not a team you turn down.

“After five years the moment has come, to call time on my career as a Manchester City Women’s player…

“Thanks to the fans for their support over the last five years, I’ve given this club everything & won every trophy domestically possible to win.

“I knew if I was to turn it down it would be a massive regret.

“So I’m here, I’ve signed, I’m ready to compete and I know it’s going to be a great journey for me.

“I’m so excited. It’s the biggest club team in the world for women’s football, and there’s no better way to really kick on my career than to play for this team.”

Parris is a part of the England side set to compete at this summer’s World Cup and quickly added how she feels about next season.

“I’m so excited to play with some of the best players in the world and really show what I can do.”
