MEN’S FOOTBALL: Canada Soccer say their World Cup-bound men’s team have returned to training after refusing to play a friendly against Panama in a dispute over fees and equal pay.
The governing body said on Monday that the two sides had met the night before. The team returned to practice and future meetings have been scheduled.
TENNIS: Veteran Andy Murray began his campaign at the Boss Open in Stuttgart with victory over Australia’s Christopher O’Connell, but fellow British Wimbledon hope Emma Raducanu retired injured just three games into her first match at the Nottingham Open.
The 19-year-old said she will need a scan to find out the extent of the injury and has “no idea” whether she will be fit for Wimbledon at the end of the month.
CYCLING: Mark Cavendish will return to the British national road championships later this month as part of a line-up in Dumfries & Galloway that includes all five defending champions from last year’s races in Lincoln.
Defending champion Pfeiffer Georgi headlines the start list for the women’s road race, in which she will be up against the likes of Anna Shackley, Anna Henderson, Alice Barnes and Josie Nelson.
