WOMEN’S CRICKET: Sri Lanka will face India in today’s Asian Cup final after they beat Pakistan by one run in Thursday’s semi-final.

Needing nine to win from the last over, Pakistan’s Nida Dar was run out while attempting to take a second run on the last bowl of the game.

Shafali Verma top scored with 42 off 28 balls as India thumped Thailand by 74 runs in the other semi-final.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: 64 non-league teams stand on the verge of making it to the First Round of the FA Cup before today’s fourth qualifying rounds fixtures.

Previous winners Notts County, who currently top the National League, host Coalville Town, whilst phoenix-club Bury AFC, the lowest ranked team left in the draw, take on York City and cup-killers Blyth Spartans meet Wrexham.

All winners receive £9,375 in prize money, losers £3,125.

WOMEN’S RUGBY UNION: England resume their World Cup campaign this morning with a Group C fixture against France, who brushed aside South Africa 40-5 last weekend.

England top the group on points difference after thrashing Fiji 84-19.

Also in Whangerai today Scotland take on Australia needing a win to boost their hopes of making the quarter-finals while the United States face Japan, with both teams seeking their first point of the tournament. 

SPEEDWAY: Manchester’s Belle Vue Aces were crowned Premiership League Champions on Thursday night after a nail-biting 91-89 aggregate victory over the Sheffield Tigers.

Tobiasz Muslielak top scored with 10+1 points for Sheffield before crashing out as the Tigers won 50-40 on the night with Robert Lambert bagging 10 for Belle Vue.

The Aces were last year’s runners-up but hadn’t won British speedway’s premier trophy since 1993.
