Men's Football Utd full of confidence despite recent form

Manchester United beat Spurs 0-3 at White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon in an emphatic victory for the Red Devils, a team who looked far from low on confidence despite recent form; they certainly showed their capability with the star-studded squad they have.

Edinson Cavani came back into the United side, and the 34-year-old Uruguay striker’s experience proved pivotal.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “I’ve been here three years as a manager, and Tuesday’s training performance by Cavani was probably the best training performance anyone’s put in there.

“The experience came through. I was told that was the oldest team I’ve picked, and it was time for it.”

The 36-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring with a sublime finish on 39 minutes and Cavani doubled the lead after 64 minutes. Marcus Rashford scored a late third goal to seal the win after coming off the bench and making an immediate impact.

It was a much better performance from United after their 5-0 loss to Liverpool last week, showing the reaction Solskjaer was looking for after the pressure had been mounting on the United manager.

United back Aaron Wan-Bissaka had an outstanding performance crowned by a last-ditch tackle that denied Spurs attacker Son Heung Min a goal. But it wasn’t just his defensive duties: the way he joined in with the attack down the right caused Spurs problems too. It was complete performance from the full-back, who covered a lot of ground and put on a spectacular display.

Spurs did put the ball in the back of the net in the first half, Son latching on to a lovely through-ball, but it was ruled offside.

But when Spurs manager Nuno Espirito Santo subbed Lucas Moura off in the second half, to be replaced by Steven Bergwijn, he was barracked, and at the end of the match fans weren’t holding back as boos echoed round the stadium.

Nuno admitted: “It was a poor performance. We didn’t play good. United were stronger than us. We believe we are better than what we were today.”
