Scotland was right to keep water public, SNP says
THE crisis at Thames Water shows that keeping Scottish Water in public hands was the right thing to do, the SNP said today.
Scotland’s main ruling party was commenting on the prospect of the privatised utility company being placed in special measures because of a debt crisis.
Water was one of the final privatisations of the Thatcher era, but Scotland was spared thanks to a concerted campaign by Labour-led regional councils to retain control of the industry.
