Security officers launch three-day strike at Heathrow

A THREE-DAY pay strike by hundreds of Unite security officers at Heathrow Airport began today after last-minute talks via conciliation service Acas broke down.

The walkouts by 1,400 Terminal 5-based staff, which are set to continue on five further dates this month, come after take-home wages at the airport have plummeted by nearly a quarter since 2017, according to the union.

This contrasts with an 88 per cent salary boost from £800,000 to a whopping £1.5 million for the site’s chief executive John Holland-Kaye, Unite charged.
