THE Scottish Greens have called on the Scottish golf courses owned by “dangerous thug” Donald Trump to be seized by the Scottish government.
Ministers were urged by the party to use Unexplained Wealth Orders to take control of his assets in Scotland after it emerged that Trump Turnberry in Ayrshire has generated £23,640,577 and Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeenshire recorded an income of £6,738,799.
A New York civil case brought against Mr Trump’s organisation found in February that he had artificially inflated the value of his assets — including his Aberdeenshire course — to acquire loans at lower rates of interest.
Scottish Green MSP Maggie Chapman said these were enough grounds for the Scottish government to intervene.
“Donald Trump is a dangerous thug whose presidency has brought brutality for people in the US and illegal, immoral wars abroad,” she said.
“Scotland should not allow war criminals or fascists to profit from our land or our people.
“Bringing these assets into public ownership would ensure every penny they generate benefits the people of Scotland.”
The Scottish government was contacted for comment.
International solidarity can ensure that Trump and his machine cannot prevail without a level of political and economic cost that he will not want to pay, argues CLAUDIA WEBBE
